About the artist
Jen Day’s paintings only recently hit the art world after, in her own words, “I got out of my own way.” As most artists can attest, they are their own worst critics. This phenomenon has kept a lot of talent away from public view unfortunately. It was only when she first started to share her paintings with others did she find the encouragement and confidence to take her passion of a hobby and turn it in to a fulfilling and passionate journey as a professional artist.
Known for her realistic depictions of familiar yet still “anywhere” scenes and subject matter, Jens’ work has captured the attention of many art curators and collectors. Her style of acrylic paintings have been described as “at a glance photo-realism meets bold and simplistic impressionism”.
Born and raised in the midwest, Jen always has felt the need to be creative. From an early start at the age of 16 as a Florist, Jen knew being creative was her calling. It was in this career as a florist where she developed her passion of composition, color and the vision, to create something from nothing with an idea and a little inspiration.
So, what does a person do after they receive their calling? In Jen’s case…you get a desk job, raise a family, attend soccer practices, school band concerts, house train puppies...you know, live a life. While her life leading up to now is full of great memories, proud moments and greater accomplishments, that calling has never quieted. As her family has now blossomed and grown their own wings, Jen has focused back to answering that calling, by picking up a camera and a paint brush. That creative creature that had slumbered for so long, has finally awakened.
Artist Statement
Spending a day off of work painting and listening to music sure has changed my life. That day was when I painted “The Garden”, an abstract painting around one of my favorite subject matter, flowers. I have since experimented with different styles and subjects, trying to capture the feelings and memories of all my travels and inspiring moments, most notably my time spent in Door County WI. Unlike most paintings I see of Door County, my paintings don’t necessarily scream “this is Door County”, they are just subjects that look like they can be from anywhere, but they hold meaning for me. My love of photography helps me capture my special moments and I’m always composing that blank canvas in my head.
I am transported while I am painting, as if time does not exist. I have so much to share with the world through them. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed their coming to being.
